| Recently, while speaking in Idaho, I met a fascinating man named Robert Michael Kurz. Kurz has written an intriguing book titled FORMATION GENERATION (Tate Publishing: 2008) that calls for “A New Generation Formed in Prayer.”
Believing as he does that human life begins at conception — a premise with which I totally agree –, Kurz believes we should pray for our children regularly from the point of conception through birth, and of course thereafter. Week by week, FORMATION GENERATION reveals what takes place at every stage of pregnancy and suggests specific prayer that every stage of development your pre-born child will grow physically and spiritually as planned. For example, between weeks 4-8 the baby’s heart, brain, and basic organs develop. During this period, Kurz suggests that the parents during this period “pray your child will indeed have a rich, deep, and whole-hearted love for God,” “pray the Lord God to give the Spirit without measure to your child,” “pray your precious little pre-born will earnestly have the desire to search For god with all their heart and soul and find Him,” and “pray your pre-born baby’s mind would be set on and focused towards the Holy Spirit so that they will have fullness of life and always have peace within themself.” Between weeks 9-11 the lungs, liver, kidneys, face, eyes, arms, legs, and fingers develop. “Pray God would give breath to and form the spirit of your pre-born baby. Pray God would instill within the spirit of your child the desire for godliness.” And, “Pray that your pre-born’s liver would be strong and untainted,” “Pray the kidneys of your pre-born child to be able to purify the baby’s blood efficiently and properly for optimum health,” and “Pray for all the facial features of your precious pre-born. Pray that the muscles and bones would form and develop so they would be just as God planned. Pray that your child would have all the facial features that would reflect a beautiful combination of both parents. Pray that all who look upon the face of your child would always see a godly countenance. Pray for their expressions to be vivid and clear.” At this point you may be thinking, “That’s a nice thought, but most people have more important things to do.” But think about it: Are we not commanded to pray? And does prayer change things? If so, then what would be the result if a whole generation of Christian young people were thoroughly prayed for from conception to birth, that God would guide each facet of their physical, mental and spiritual development through birth and thereafter as well? Is it not likely that this “Formation Generation” would great benefits and advantages over others that had not been the beneficiaries of such prayer? This is what Kurz means when he speaks of the “Formation Generation,” a generation of children whose Christian parents have bathed them in prayer from conception to birth. Read this book, and more important, follow its suggestions. And if you don’t have any pre-born children, formation prayer works for grandchildren, nieces and nephews, children of friends, and even children of total strangers. Some books change our way of thinking. Others extend our thinking into areas we had not considered. Kurz’s book does the latter. Buy and read FORMATION GENERATION! |
